According to the Cape Hunt constitution, a junior must be at least 10 year old to join as a junior. Juniors are between the ages of 10 and 18 and also pay a reduced fee.
Although the age to join as a member is 10, we encourage parent to bring their juniors to Cape Hunt activities to participate in some of the event we organize.
We have annual junior hunters courses that start with a theoretical day, covering safety, first aid, animal identification, basic hunting principals, conservation, tracking basics, introduction to ballistics and some practical handling of fire arms and the day ends with every junior under strict supervision firing a few shots at a static target.
The practical part of the junior course involves a 4 day hunt where the theory can be applied in practice and every junior has the chance to shoot one springbok under the strict supervision of an adult hunter. Every junior hunter then has to dress his or her animal and a practical demonstration is given on how to dissect the different parts of the animal to cut various cuts of meat.
See our calendar for the next junior course or contact the office for more details.
We also encourage parents to send us details of a juniors first hunt. Once a year at our GALA dinner, we award juniors who shot their first buck a free membership to welcome them into the home of the hunter in the Western Cape.
CHASA also has a Junior Mentor photo competition. Send your photo of you taking a junior on a hunt as his or her mentor and stand a chance to win a free hunt. Competition is not judged on the quality of the picture but can be seen as your entry for this competition.
